AboutĀ Ryan
I began my career as a therapist working for a respected local psychologist and school social worker at a school for students with behavior challenges in 1998 after graduating from Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social Work. Specializing in ADHD was not something I planned to do. Instead, it came naturally due to the students I worked with in my school and summer camp jobs.
When I adopted my son through the foster care system in 2006, he was eight at the time. I was utterly unprepared for the severity of the behaviors I was about to deal with, in addition to his executive function challenges and difficulty with social skills. At this time, I was still working at a school for students with behavior challenges (primarily diagnosed with ADHD or autism). At this point, I decided to take the learning into my own hands, which led me on a journey of learning all I could to help him and the kids I worked with.
ADHD Dude began in 2018 and was only meant to showcase the strategies I was teaching in my school year programs and summer camp. When asked to do a webinar for ADDitude Magazine on why traditional therapy and social skills groups did not work for boys with ADHD, I quickly learned how many parents could relate to the information I shared because I was speaking of their experiences. Since then, ADHD Dude has grown to include Parent Training through the ADHD Dude Membership Site, in-person school year programs, and Trip Camp.
If you're looking for practical information and actionable strategies to help your child with ADHD, you're in the right place. No academic speak, no "fluffy" parenting advice, only evidence-informed information and strategies you can use to help your child with ADHD reach their full potential.
